Make a wish

It’s Wishcasting Wednesday at Jamie Ridler Studios, and Jamie asks “What dream do you wish to explore?”.

I want explore a dream I’ve had for a little while: building an online business. I want to make a living doing something I’m really fascinated by, that will let me live anywhere I want to, working the hours that suit me, connecting with interesting people (such as you, gentle reader).

I’m playing around with some specific ideas, so more on that in due course, but meanwhile that is my dream today. What’s yours?

Elsewhere:

Steve had a dream about combining images and leadership, so he did it. Magpie Girl dreamed of having her own Flock, so she did it. (I have actually heard that the collective noun is a “murder” of Magpies, but that doesn’t have quite the same connotation…)

I have no doubt somehow that your dream will come true. And this delights me.
As to my own dream, it is to write a blog as true to what I am as I can, true to my relationship with the Triune God+de, those I love, those I know and do not know… As close as possible to the tune my soul hums in the never-ending cosmos…

Lissa, Giulietta and claire, thank you, and claire, I think you are close to your dream, your blog reads true.

Hi, Tess. Building a business (online, offline, doesn’t matter) can be really exciting, and a lot of work. But you do get to make your own tradeoffs, whether for money or time or flexibility, and that can be a lot of fun. I hope I catch some stories of your journey.

As Tess herself wishes, so I wish with her also.

Tess, may your explorations lead you to realize your dream. If your intention is genuine and the details specified, this can certainly happen. I have been self-employed all of my adult life, a dreamer, a voyager, an entrepreneur who deeply cares. Living in Japan is part of this for me. Now that I have established my publishing company, Energy Doorways, at the foot of Mount Fuji, growing an online business is my vision, too. It is important to have the courage to remember that you don’t need to live your life the way anyone else expects you to. Thanks for the photo – here in my mountain garden both Western and native Japanese dandelions are everywhere. A gladness of yellow I look forward to sharing in the coming months.

a murder of magpies :-) )))

may your dreams come true Tess

Thank you all for your good wishes, it’s great to hear from you with such encouragement.
@Lucy: I can feel more and more from your writing that you are indeed living your dream. Or should I say loving it.
@kigen: there’s no “it”, there are “some” possibilities. My task is to discern which are momentary enthusiasms (a theme with me…) and which have depth. Then think them through. I thought that putting the intention out here on my blog would hold me to account.
@Sara and @Tim: welcome to my blog and thanks for your comments. You’re right, Tim, it’s the tradeoffs that will be fun.
@Catrien: every year I feel guilty because I don’t dig up all the dandelions in my garden before they go to seed, which probably gives my neighbours much more work. But I think the flowers and seedheads are so pretty.

Hi Tess,

Thanks for the link. Yes – it does seem that I have built a business out of images and leadership. It’s been something that I have pursued for a while and it feels very ‘right’ for me. The ‘business plan’ for my dream was to do what I loved, with people that I liked and trust that I would sometimes get paid! OK, my bank manager wasn’t too keen but it has kept me and the family fed and watered for the past 5 years and… 2010 looks better than ever.

Keep articulating that dream – you will make it come true…;-))

Barbara 01.07.10 at 6:12 pm

What an adventure you wish to take! May you have clear skies and a strong headwind and navigable waters!

Dymphna 01.07.10 at 10:45 pm

Wow, to be able to work when and where you want…what freedoms.

As Tess wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.

Tess 01.08.10 at 10:20 am

@Steve: just goes to show what bank managers know!
@Barbara: I love a good marine metaphor.
@Dymphna: thank you for your comment and welcome to my blog.

I have so many dreams, it’s sometimes hard to pick one to focus on, one I actually have the chance to make happen in my real life circumstances.

The one I’m choosing to mention here is opening a laundromat. Being a person who’s used laundromats most of my adult life, and who despises the only one that’s available to me right now, I want to create one that is sustainable and pleasant, with Wi-Fi, a kids’ area, a small snack bar, and an outdoor seating area.

The only thing I’m lacking is money. My goal is to get involved with members of the Taos Entrepreneurial Network and the Chamber of Commerce and find a partner who can help with the financing.

Thanks for asking, and blessings on YOUR new venture!

claire 01.09.10 at 7:44 pm

What a neat, neat idea, Pollinatrix!
To follow the example given here, As Pollinatrix herself wishes, I wish her also.
I was looking at Becky Beckman’s website, The Dancing Word, today and realized that I would like to facilitate the coming of women retreat givers and women liturgical dancers in France & Switzerland. But I need to think more of this.
Again, all my energies and prayers to the dreams mentioned here :-)

The Pollinatrix 01.09.10 at 7:48 pm

Thank you, claire! Here’s a funny thing – When I first started working on this goal, I was just starting to take daily walks over to a church in my neighborhood that has a statue of St. Clare in the courtyard, to which I’m very drawn. I looked her up online and discovered that she’s the patron saint of laundry workers!

And blessings on your dream – that sounds like a wonderful thing to work on.

Tess 01.10.10 at 6:31 pm

Pollinatrix and Claire, may your dreams come true, they both sound wonderful, and Polli I love that synchronicity with St Clare!
