A couple of lovely people have emailed asking if I’m OK, so in case you’re wondering whether I’ve completely forgotten about y’all and my online life, the answer is no, but I’m working crazy long hours.
Working freelance, I’ve grabbed several opportunities at the same time to build up a little financial stockpile for next year. It’s all really interesting work but I’ve been pretty much getting up at 5 a.m. and working until 9 p.m. or later for a few weeks now, leaving little time for reading or writing blogs. (Although of course that’s what those of you with young children do every day of your lives!)
Things should calm down in a couple of weeks, when a couple of the projects come to an end. Meanwhile, heeeere’s Dolly:

That’s a great video, Tess! Love all the Disney characters working 9 to 5!
It makes me think of the original film — it was called 9 to 5, also, wasn’t it? — and the legions of secretaries and other office workers streaming out of the Staten Island ferry toward their workplaces in lower Manhattan. Those were the folks I grew up with — the secretaries and office workers, I mean, not Snow White and the Seven Dwarves or Minnie Mouse!
I am glad that you spend those long hours on interesting projects and that soon that stress will be over.
Hey Tess,
I look forward to hearing that interesting work sift into your blogging. In the meantime, I miss your regular insight but congratulations on snagging something interesting and lucrative for the time being.
xoxo
That’s nice being able to squirrel away some nuts for the winter
how blessed you are in this economy to have several opportunities
may your energy last the distance
@Barbara: thanks, yes it was the film that made me think of this title, it starred the rather unexpected combination of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and the fabulous Miss Parton. I think it would have been much more interesting to grow up with Snow White!
@SS: thank you. Sadly the interesting work won’t be allowed into the blog because it’s confidential corporate stuff.
@Sue: especially as I’m a bit nutty!
@Kel: blessed indeed, in so many ways. I try never to forget it (even as I clamber onto the train just after 9 o’clock for the journey home!).
You are sorely missed Tess. I think that I said that before, but, well, if I did, it’s just as true this time! Somehow, I really believe that you are going to be back with your fabulous posts some day and I will keep checking back until you are. Blessings on the work that you are doing in the world. May you have the time that you need to care lovingly for yourself.
Love….
Thanks Rebecca.
Count me in with those missing you and your insightful commentary. I’m also glad to hear that you have been productively busy, but those hours away from home must be exhausting. Can you work from home and do this type contract work? Hope so! It would be lovely to commute to your computer, tea or coffee in hand and pajamas still on if you so choose. That would be especially nice during the winter months.
Be good to you and don’t stay so busy that your soul cannot keep up with your body! My Grandma used to say that.
May the joys of the season be yours!
Love and hugs!
It’s too bad you can’t talk about your work – I’m very curious!
I haven’t thought about that movie in a long time. When I was a kid, I adored it. I went to see it like 5 times in the theater. I’m gonna have to rent it now.
I am glad that you have jobs to work on. Enjoy! It will be nice to have you back. In the meantime, i send you all the energy I have unused
@Barbara Anne: thank you, and I love that phrase of your Grandma’s it’s very true.
@Pollinatrix: Enjoy the movie! The work is less fascinating than perhaps I’ve made it sound – two potential staff restructuring exercises to improve career prospects.
@claire: thanks claire, I’ve finally managed to catch one of the colds I’ve been dodging for a while, so energy is very helpful!
Therese, you have managed to turn your downtime into a fantastic 5-9 (great title) romp with Dolly Parton! Your creativity at Anchors abounds. Come back soon.
