In stillness

Motion and stillness

A brief post to alert you to something happening this Wednesday, 25th November.

Just This Day is organising a shared stillness, to connect with humanity around the globe by taking refuge in ten minutes of silence and quiet. Teachers can get their children involved,  businesses their staff. Or it can be just you. From the website:

Our world is busy and in the turmoil we forget we all share the same space. Families, communities and countries live with conflict, poverty and disease. How can we make a difference?

STOP – For Just This Day

Go beyond nationality, religious difference or belief and remember the still, silent presence where everything is united.

That space is the same.

In cities or fields. Up mountains or in valleys. In work, study or play. In fortune or adversity.

In peace or conflict. In fact wherever YOU are. It belongs to us all.

To pledge stillness for ten minutes some time during Wednesday, and explore some beautiful words and ideas, click here.

I need this: thrown back into the world of work I am over-busy and stressed; this will be a wonderful oasis. Perhaps for American friends it can be a deep breath before the plunge into Thanksgiving.

ooh, for those of us on this side of the dateline, this is tomorrow!
I will be manning the fort on my own at work, so won’t have much opportunity to be still at 10am, but definitely will participate at some time during the day
thanks for the heads up Tess

Therese! There’s a lovely mudra called “Garuda” which emulates a Mystical Bird. I’ll do this hand posture in silence (see link) for at least ten minutes on Wednesday:

Thank you, Tess. Just what I needed.

Hi Tess,
You have been sorely missed! Thanks for making me aware. I try to work stillness into every day and this will give me an opportunity to connect with mindful people (or people who are trying to be!) around the world. May there be many spaces for lovely stillness in your life today.

Love….

Thank you all, and Tenar, the mudra is beautiful.
I tried to do my time of stillness in a small City community garden today, but the roaring London traffic was too much, so I just got my meditation stool out this evening. My meditation practice varies in frequency but the experience of the last fifteen minutes has reminded me of its importance.
