I don’t really believe in astrology…

…but reading the entry for my sign, Libra, in this year’s We’Moon diary, I was struck by how much these phrases pulled at me:

Life’s a game, Libra, so pay special attention to the rules this year. The most important is the one that goes when your heart thrums with delight as you turn towards a specific person, desire or dream, keep moving in that direction. If your heart is still, don’t think yourself to death, just adjust your course.

“Don’t think yourself to death.” Oh yes, I do that all the time. Paralysis by analysis. And:

Risk-taking and free-form creativity are good for you this year, prodding you to surrender control (though don’t scatter your energy). Advice from friends may not be helpful, in fact you may have to contend with their disapproval of your experimentation. Some solitude and down time is essential, as much energy is occupied with deep internal processes and you must not be distracted from this work. Art or music assist in this deep diving, and dredging up profound and stunning impressions.

I began to think these paragraphs might help me in finding my word of 2009. Many others have found theirs, for example here, here and here. I was getting a little envious. And a little sad. I thought I’d never find a word of my own. (You have to picture a tremulous lower lip at this point…)

But the more I thought about those two paragraphs, the more the phrase follow my heart kept coming to me.

So yes, my word of 2009 is HEART.

Heart

Meanwhile, elsewhere in cyberspace:

I’m reading Jarkko Laine on simplicity and community, and Blisschick’s perspectives from a car-free world. And Forest Wisdom has been (inadvertently) whipping up some interesting comments on contemplation-v-action here. Personally, I don’t think it’s an either/or.

And I thought Light was your word. Heart’s a good word. I have no word and I think I will leave it at that. Too much pressure. Maybe “Whatever.” ;)

Lovely Tess. Have you ever had your birth chart done? So much more complex and nuanced, I didn’t really believe in astrology until I went this route for fun and discovered some profound wisdom for my life.

Happy New Year!

I am so glad you found your word! I remember feeling like word would never find me and resigning myself to a big blank slate for 2009 (somebody, please pull out the fainting couch and grab the smelling salts!). Isn’t is it a comfort and well worth waiting for?
May your heart be full in this new year,
Marisa

I love the WeMoon. What a beautiful way to think about it……”when your heart thrums with delight…keep moving in that direction.” I love it.

Hi Tess – I found your blog via the comment you left on Simon Parke’s website, which I have now joined, and followed it up because we share the same name! Then I found you too are an Enneagram woman and we’re on the same triad – I’m a 6.

Just wanted to say as a fellow WeMoon user that this year we (Brits) have our own spearheaded by the lovely Glennie Kindred who has been such an inspiration to many of us. It is called Earth pathways and has our own rhythms and seasons. http://www.earthpathwaysdiary.co.uk

I keep returning to your blog – thank you. good to meet you. Tess x

@Barbara: light is good, but heart is better. And “whatever” is great!!
@Abbey: hi Christine – I did have a brief chart done once years ago which was interesting, but I don’t know what time of day I was born and have no way of finding out, so can’t get every last nuance charted.
@Marisa: the funny thing is I would never have even thought of a ‘word’ if it hadn’t been for all you guys doing it.
@Molly: thank you. The WeMoon is expensive, but so packed full I think it’s worth it.
@Tess W: a special welcome to a fellow Enneagrammer, Brit and name-sharer! That central triangle is a tricky one, isn’t it? Interesting to see the diary you mention, I shall go and explore the website and hopefully buy that one next year.

It seems to me that “heart” is a perfect word to describe you and I’m eager to see the words from your heart for 2009 and how that heart keeps you in touch with who you are and where you’re going:)

Beautiful! I LOVE it! I’m crazy about hearts. I think living by your heart and using it as a compass keeps you on a wonderful path. What a lovely choice for 2009.

Oh my library doesn’t carry The French Kitchen, darn it! It sounds PERFECT for me! I ordered Chocolat though, I’ve seen the movie but haven’t read the book. Thanks for that reminder!

I am so very happy to hear you’re enjoying Home Comforts, isn’t it great? You’re doing so well at following the instructions, I’m totally impressed. I was shocked that she thinks you should clean your fridge once a week though! Egads, that is definitely my next big cleaning project.

Hey Suzie, I’m glad to remind you about Chocolat – be interesting to see what you think of the differences with the film. If you enjoy it, you should read her book Blackberry Wine, which is very magical in many ways.

You should clean your fridge once a week?? Oh, OK, haven’t got to that bit yet…
