It’s Poetry day at Abbey of the Arts, in which Christine suggests a title and a photograph, and those taking part submit a poem inspired by the visual starting point.
Today, Christine gives us a group of weathervanes, taken in Maine, with the phrase ‘inner compass’ as a guide. I’ve chosen my favourite photograph, the one with the whale.
Do go to Abbey of the Arts to see the original post and people’s poems, maybe contribute one yourself.
Here’s what the theme says to me:
Spinning
I spin the circle round,
pointing out, away.
I dance in the wind,
I glow in the sun,
I creak in the rain.Do you need me
to show you the way?
What will you do
when I spin back
and around again?

love it!
it’s raining here today and i feel a little “creaky” myself.
Tess, this is great, your poem has my mind spinning in a good way — getting my mind around your images. And those last two questions are definitely worth a long ponder.
i love how we were both drawn to the whale weathervane, yet came up with very different responses
Thanks all, and welcome, Kel. It’s raining here today as well, but a light, “cleaning” kind of rain. No weathervanes in this part of stuffy old England – I might get one!!
