No, not that kind of coach!

This morning I finished a year-long personal coaching process. I’ve been working with a life coach to try and construct a life for myself that is simpler and more reflective. Fewer shoulds and more authenticity, less doing and more being.

Over the past year, one of the key areas in which my coach has encouraged me is in my creativity. She has listened to me stumblingly articulate how I would like to live, and has asked searching questions. She has held me to account over steps to which I’ve committed.

At the beginning of this year, I started working part-time and gave myself permission to begin working on visual arts and writing projects, a few of which I’ve shared here from time to time. I’ve realised more about what my values in life really are, and how I can live more freely within them. I’ve taken many practical steps to craft my life in line with what’s really important to me, and paid less attention to what people might think. I feel much happier, more grounded.

I don’t think I could have done this without the encouragement, patience, support and accountability provided by my coach.

So who is this paragon of virtue? Pause for drumroll…

Sally Lever, who specialises in downshifting and sustainable living coaching. Sally encourages her clients to “Stop Longing and Start Living”, but she does so in a very gentle and simple way, with none of the hoopla and ego one associates with some life coaches. And it’s refreshing to know up front that goals other than “get a big house and a fast car” are respected.

As well as giving coaching options including teleclasses, Sally’s website gives you the opportunity to subscribe to her free newsletter, which is excellent. Always a joy when it pops into my email box.

So this post is really a big thank you to Sally for a fantastic year’s collaboration, and a recommendation to any of you who might be thinking about coaching options.

Thank you for sharing this, Tess. I’m so happy for you. As you know (I hope) I enjoy your writing and creative projects (please keep sharing these). I had no idea you were working with a coach to help you discover and exercise your gifts.

I will check out Sally’s site.

Tess, it makes me so happy to know you have had this kind of support for your own unfolding. I love the image of “sustainable living coaching” and will check out her site. And I look forward to your own fruits from this process!

What a wonderful gift you have given yourself!

Although a personal life coach is not in my plans for the near future, the freedom of blogging and interacting with other “freedom” seekers (re their personal lifestyles and creativity) has been a blessing to me. I thank you for your input into what I consider my growth in self-honesty and creative abilities over the past year.

Looks like a day for thank yous!
