Forty years ago, my teenage self fell in love with Leonard Cohen. (And Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, James Taylor. What can I tell you, I had a thing for skinny dark minstrels.)
Over the years, with the miniscule degree of maturity I have accumulated, I’ve come to appreciate Cohen as the great poet and songwriter he is. And now I’m finally going to get to see him in concert!
You may have seen that after his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame he announced a new world tour, at 73 probably his last. Tickets came on sale in the UK at 9.00 a.m. this morning, and by 9.03, two of them were earmarked for me. I’m so looking forward to July!
One by one the guests arrive
The guests are coming through
The open-hearted many
The broken-hearted fewAnd those who dance begin to dance
And those who weep begin
Welcome, welcome, cries a voice
Let all my guests come in
Leonard Cohen

Woohoo! That’s great, Tess. I am envious.
Good for you! This tour has to do with the fact that someone he trusted impoverished him while he was in Buddhist retreat in California. He’s one of Montreal’s treasures.
What fun Tess! I love Leonard Cohen too (and Cat Stevens, James Taylor and Bob Dylan) and spent many an hour listening INTENTLY to his music. I’ll have to check and see if he’s coming to the west coast on his tour. Enjoy!
Uh-oh – I’m with you on Cat, James, Bob…..I’m going to have to look up LC:)
xoxox
And so I listened to Mr. LC a bit…..I think it’s probably an acquired taste?
i love the image of your groupie self!!! i’m sure we will hear all about it in july
Thanks everyone. Barbara, no I didn’t know this. SS: a colleague of mine refers to LC as “music to commit suicide by”, which I think is slightly unfair, but I accept perhaps he is a slightly acquired taste. Lucy, you sure will hear all about it!
and July would be? – what now my giggly girls…
