Invitation to PoetryIt’s Christine’s fortnightly Invitation to Poetry today. She has given us this lovely photograph as inspiration. My own words are below. I’d love to hear what the photograph stirs in you – head on over to Abbey of the Arts to let us know.

I found

A deep breath of peace,
the slow suck of waves
lifting, and letting go,
lifting, and letting go
again.

A gentle filtered light,
clouds scudding past the sun
one instant clear, then dark
one instant clear, then dark
again.

This poem has such a lovely rhythm to it, lulling me into the rhythm of the sea. Thanks so much Tess!

Thanks for your nice comments. This is one of those poems that wrote itself within seconds of seeing the photograph, I just had to hold the pen. And doesn’t the photo go beautifully with the colour scheme of my blog? ;-)

Actually, when I say held the pen, I meant tap the keyboard, but it doesn’t sound as romantic…

So lovely, Tess. I too felt the rhythm as I read. You even make your comment to others’ comments poetic. “Hold the pen.” I imagine something like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/71365669@N00/375598954/

Elaine, I love that image. Oh for those graceful days. But then I wouldn’t know any of you guys!

So true and “you guys” are the inspiration for my response to “I Found”, still an early work-in-progress.
