When you see yourself as a choicemaker, you take on the role of protagonist in your life story. You know that what you choose to do, or not do, has an effect. You learn that when circumstances are unavoidable or even terrible, then how you respond inwardly is a choice that may make all the difference.

Great quote. I was JUST teaching this to my class tonight. Being aware, making choices instead of just reacting to stimuli. Being intentional both about the choice AND the consequences of the choice rather than letting life just happen to you. So simple, but so many people haven’t been made aware of this.
Maya, thanks. What I like about it is that it doesn’t say (as opposed to “The Secret”) that we have total control over our lives, but we do have control over our choices and responses. I think the words you use, “intentional” is really important.
Excellent quote, Tess. I like the thought about being a protagonist in your own life story. It is a powerful image.
Barbara, I wonder the extent to which this implies our lives are works of fiction…
Magical realism, I suppose.
