Happy New Year!
It’s arbitrary, isn’t it, the calendar (not the moon or the sun) telling us that it’s a new year, but nonetheless, here it is. Every day is an opportunity for a new start, but some more than others.
Not to sound too po-faced about it, but compassion, simplicity and love are what we need to counter the warmongering and threats against the planet. Together, let’s make 2008 count for something, and while we do, let’s have the time of our lives.
There’s a bittersweet song from Green Day that reminds us of the fork in the road: (Good Riddance) Time of Your Life.
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why
It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it’s worth it was worth all the while
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

Happy New Year, Tess! I love that song. It’s on my most played CD and is almost always how I start every morning on the way to work. Kind of a reminder to me not to waste any more time and while I’m livin’, live it up!
Jules, glad you like it. I saw them in concert in the UK a couple of years back and they were amazing. They played an open air venue on a perfect summer day and ended with that song – to thousands of people holding up lighters in the dark. It was electrifying. It was the gig where their Bullet in a Bible DVD/CD was filmed.
Happy new year, my friend.
Thank you Towanda, and a happy new year to you. Onward and upward, as your namesake would say!
