I’m a little spooked right now.
In her comment to my post on my fishy dream yesterday, Lucy talked about the symbol of the salmon and gave a beautiful quote including “The salmon offers us a way to face truth without shutting down”.
I have an occasional spiritual practice which no doubt my conservative Christian friends would heartily condemn: I own a pack of totem animal oracle cards, from the shamanic tradition, and some mornings I meditate over the cards as I shuffle them, then pick one to see what the animal message might be for me that day.
Well you know what I’m going to say: this morning I picked the salmon card. From 116 cards. As far as I can recall for the first time ever. Part of the salmon reading is:
Even if you’re not sure of your purpose or why you’re faced with these challenges, follow your path in absolute faith, and the reasons will reveal themselves within the process of your journey. Sometimes your actual goal isn’t apparent, even when the direction you must go is. You must trust that your direction is being inspired by the deepest sense of your innate knowing, align your intention with Spirit’s intent, and let nothing stop you from moving ahead.
I can sense some powerful changes coming in my life, even though I am not sure what they are. Like the salmon, I am gathering my strength and determination.

Well, I’m sure I would fall into that “conservative Christian friend” catagory and I see nothing wrong with meditating on cards to bring your life into focus. I’m a firm believer that God can lead us to answers and insights in many different ways and that He knows our hearts well enough to use the way(s) that work for us as individuals.

Well….I have a Contemplative category {?animal oracle cards)in my Google Reader and every morning I pick one blog (?card) at random to read first. Today I picked Anchors & Masts (the spirituality, friendship, community card)to find a message for today. And you know –I’m not spooked by this — it does provide guidance I need right now. Thank you, Tess.

I love the synchronicity that dreams often bring, I’ve had experiences like this many times and it always calls me to really pay attention. Salmon are pretty much the totem animal of the entire NW US. I love Ted Andrew’s Animal Speak book, the cards sound great — what’s the name of them?

Thank you friends. Elaine, I love that you do that random blog picking thing. I’ll have to try that – I’m far too methodical, going A – Z (and some days only getting to M!)
The deck is called “Power Animal Oracle Cards by Steven D Farmer”. You can get them on Amazon. He is a shamanic practitioner and his illustrations are mostly beautiful.
This morning, I drew Frog: purification. An invitation to clear out the clutter in our lives, internal and external. Very relevant to me!

Oh, and Christine, I have the Ted Andrews book as well, although I haven’t yet done more than skim it.

Hi Tess,
I loved the message from the Salmon card. They are words of advice I can use in my own life right now.

I love the idea of those meditation cards. I think it’s amazing how clearly connected you are to what is happening, or coming up, in your life. May whatever changes that are coming your way be what’s best for you, ultimately.

Thanks Anne, and NTE (welcome to the blog NTE, glad to see you here). And thanks to Magpie Girl for the link.
