So Blog Action Day has finally arrived.
I’m one of 15,000 bloggers worldwide raising our voices to speak about climate crisis and the environment. Between us, we will reach over 12 million readers.
I’ve chosen to speak about trees today, for all sorts of reasons: their beauty, their strength, their place in myth and legend, the sheer miracle of their growth. There are trees alive today that are old enough to have witnessed the rise and fall of civilisations.
To me, trees are symbolic of everything we will lose if we do not move decisively to reverse global warming now, while we have a few years, or maybe only a few months, to do so.
I hope you appreciate this short video I’ve made to mark the very first Blog Action Day:
And to end, in thankfulness for the earth and all her treasures, this from Mary Oliver:
I thought the Earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts,her
pockets full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before,
a stone on the riverbed,
nothing between me
and the white fire of the stars.

Tess, this is a wonderful post. I love trees. To stand in a forest or even a humble copse is to experience a stillness and majesty that is at once aloof and close. It is, to me, a holy experience.
I just love the video - elegiac and inspiring. And the poem - whew, it penetrates deep into the soul. Thank you so much for touching our hearts!

Tess, this is so beautiful and so powerful. The images, the gentle music, the text to accompany the pictures and sound. I viewed this just before I started my workday and shall keep it in mind as I go throughout my activities.
I hope the Blog Action Day organizers see your work.

Tess, Such a beautiful tribute to God’s creation. Thank you for taking the time to remind us all of the stewardship responsibility with which we have been entrusted.
(I keep working on, but failing, to produce links in my posts so that I may invite others to share such beautiful posts as yours!)Thank you again.

Thanks to all of you, I really appreciate it. It’s been really interesting and inspiring reading all the different approaches bloggers have taken to today. And I loved putting the video together, even though the perfectionist in me still wants to tinker with it just… a… little… more…
