in Blogging

hope.jpgI’ve only just begun reading the Catholic blog Whispers in the Loggia. It happens I’ve started at a time when the writer, Rocco Palmo, has very recently and unexpectedly suffered the death of a dear friend and mentor, Dan Parrillo.

Dan had a late vocation to the priesthood, but didn’t live long enough to be ordained. So Rocco asked if there were one or two priests among the readership of Whispers who would celebrate for Dan the mass that he never lived to celebrate for himself.

Rocco’s readers came through: not one or two but nearly 500 priests will celebrate mass for Dan. Most of them never knew him.

I find it so very heartening and touching that this new blogging world we couldn’t even have imagined a few years back can step out from behind its electronic face and show real human compassion.

We see it again and again – I’ve had my own experiences of it – when people write that they are in pain and trouble, others that they’ve never met send words of comfort. I think it’s wonderful, and it gives me such hope for the future.

Each day
We gather up substance
And continue the task
Of endlessly
Remaking ourselves
From one another.

It is amazing how the internet has changed the face of the world and how we communicate. I have met wonderful people (like you!) who normally I would never ever come into contact. I just want to say I read your blog all the time. It is extremely positive and thoughtful. You make ME think! :D

Thank you Maya, I really appreciate what you say. I’ve been thinking about you over the past few weeks with your ups and downs and hoping you are not too overwhelmed with stuff. I guess you’ll be busy getting ready for Rosh Hashana. Hope all is well with your Dad.

It really is amazing, isn’t it? It just stuns me every time it happens.
