A brief post today because it’s my sister’s wedding day (more tomorrow in a special Sunday Collection).
Last night after posting a link to Jen Lemen’s ‘awesome’ post I remembered something I saw a few years back that really touched me.
I was on a train (I seem to spend half my life on the things!) sitting behind a young woman having an emotional conversation on her mobile phone. I couldn’t hear everything she said but it sounded as if she was going to be away from her loved one for a time and the parting was a wrench.
She finished the conversation and cried quietly for just a few moments. Not absolutely devastated but clearly miserable.
I was vaguely aware of a middle-aged man sitting nearby, a couple of seats away from her and diagonally opposite, facing her. He got up at this point and walked off down the aisle.
After a few minutes he came back, turned to her with a look of great kindness and a twinkle in his eye and handed her what he had bought, saying “You sound like someone who needs a big bar of chocolate. Here you are.” Then he just sat back down in his seat and disappeared behind his paper for the rest of the journey.
It was magic!

When I hear stories like this, or witness them, I am reminded that there is hope for us as a species. We CAN be kind and gentle, even to strangers.
Thanks for sharing.
