How do you describe a fragrance in words?
I open the door to my garden. Early morning moist air, liberally powdered with an assertive scent. Easy on the nose, no sharpness to it, clean but full and if not really rich then at least lush. A dryness, a hint of spice, a dash of incense. An intense sweetness.
What abundant gifts these sprigs of delicate strength can show us.
Yes, I heard my people singing!–in the glow of parlor coal-stove and on summer porches sweet with lilac air, from choir loft and Sunday morning pews–and my soul was filled with their harmonies.
Paul Robeson

My favourite flower. Ours will bloom at the end of May. (I’ve tried to comment three or four times, I really hope they don’t all publish in some mysterious way and you’ll have to read about Canadian lilacs blooming in May four times….)
Thanks for your comments Joyce, I enjoyed all of them! I have comment moderation on, but maybe it doesn’t tell you that?
