Freedom to write

Those of us who write blogs in countries with a strong tradition of freedom are lucky. We have expectations that we can go about our business undisturbed.

Same with the press. The activities of gutter tabloid journalists tend to make us forget that journalism can be an honourable profession and that journalists risk their lives in parts of the world where freedom is precarious. (By the way, tabloids are only successful because people read them. Please don’t, even for fun. Value yourself and others more highly. Here endeth the lesson!)

I’ve placed on my sidebar today and in this post above a button remembering Alan Johnston, the BBC Reporter kidnapped in Gaza in March. It links to a time line of events since Alan was kidnapped. We are not sure he is still alive. A lot of people are campaigning for his release and I’m going to keep the link on my site until we know the outcome. Please join me in supporting this campaign.

And please pray for the release of all people wrongly held in the terrible conflicts around the world, including Alan.

Love what you said about that da*******ed site meter. (I call it a crack-meter, due to its addictive quality). On a day of dipped readership, I overanalyze that readers are actually calling one another, deciding that I’m full of sh*t, and that they’ll never read again. Its sad and pathetic and very funny.
