Today is Red Nose Day here in the UK, run by Comic Relief to raise money for the poor both here and in Africa.
This morning’s Thought for the Day on Radio 4 was by Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks and took up the theme of the power of humour, even in the most desperate circumstances.
I particularly like the story he relates from the funeral of Cardinal Basil Hume, whose chaplain said of him “He took God so seriously that he didn’t need to take himself seriously at all”. Now that’s something we could aspire to.
